When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Riders battled extreme conditions after continual rain had softened the course over past days. The slippery track demanded absolute concentration on the bike and creeks that should have been only a few centimeters deep were near to 50 cm.

The third day of the competition of this traditional annual offroad event saw Team Finland, led by Remes, continue to surge ahead in the national competition as riders made full use of the home track advantage. Spain and USA, reinforced with KTM riders, follow in second and third overall. In the individual Day Three Results Remes placed second with Spanish rider Lorenzo Santolino, Antti Hellsten of Finland and Mario Roman of Spain the next best KTM riders in the World Trophy competition at five, six and seven respectively.

While Caselli continues to lead the overall E2 class on Day Three he settled for fifth place with Australian KTM rider Toby Price taking line honors on the long day’s ride. Meanwhile KTM factory rider Cristobal Guerrero of Spain continues to gather confidence on the slippery surface and is second overall behind Caselli. He was third across the line on Wednesday

Other E1 KTM riders that are making solid contributions to their team are Lorenzo Santolino and Mario Roman, both of Spain and Antti Hellsten of Finland who were ranked overall 4-5 and 6 after Day Three. Following Caselli and Guerrero in the E2 standings are Price of Australia in fifth and Jari Mattila of Finland in sixth place. Russell Bobbitt (USA), Michel Szuster (Poland) and Cory Buttrick (USA) are ranked 7, 9 and 14 at the half way mark.

In contrast to the first two days, which comprised two long laps through the Finnish forests, on Wednesday competitors were out on one large lap of 300 km, which included three time checks and six special tests. On Thursday and Friday they revert to the two-lap format with three time checks and three special tests per lap before winding up the race for the title on Saturday on the Karhula MX track for 40 km, two time checks and a final test.
