ISDE, acronym of International Six Days of Enduro, is the World Championship for National teams, the oldest motorcycling competition that in 2013 will celebrates a century of history. The Italian Motorcycle Federation as organizer is already working to promote a so important event, not coincidentally known as the “Motorbike Olympics”.

The brand “Sardinia 2013″ makes a fine show from the beginning of this year in all National Enduro races, thanks to the collaboration with the Promoter Axiver. The official truck instead will debut in the next week. It’ll be present in the main motorcycling event that will take place in Italy over the next twelve months. Its first institutional task, however, will be the 2012 Six Days in Germany at the Sachsenring from September 24th to 29th.

On one side it will be the Italian team hospitality, on the other side will be an exhibition space dedicated to 2013 ISDE. At “Italy House”, we could rename “Sardinia House”, the public, 300,000 people expected by German organizers, can receive information about the race, purchase official merchandise and get a first taste of the welcome they will receive next year in Olbia from September 30th to October 5th. By partnering with local authorities, viewers can also watch videos of the beautiful Sardinian countryside, taste some typical products and ask the official tour operator, CiaoSardinia, the details of logistics and hotels.

One for all and all for one. KTM shows itself to be prepared
in the best possible way for offroad sporting activity. The
starting gun has gone off at the production line in
Mattighofen for the latest range of high-class Motocross,
Enduro and Sport Minicyles.

The Austrian market leader in its most important segment
launches the 2013 range of bikes with no less than 26 models.
Above all, there is a completely new generation of Motocross
bikes that are directly derived in the best possible tradition from
the most successful MX teams in the world.

In shorthand: a completely new 450 SX-F with SOHC fuel
injection engine, the most powerful MX1 bike that profits from
the success of the Ryan Dungey-DeCoster Supercross
collaboration.

A completely updated 350 SX-F with refined MX1 win concept.
Increased engine performance and chassis refinement make
KTM 350 rider and World Champion Toni Cairoli even better.
The world class 250 SX-F with new engine to further increase
the lead in MX2 – already tested by Roczen, Musquin, Herlings
and Co. Three two-stroke models for every rider profile round off
the KTM SX family to perfection.

Enduro Models
The KTM Development Center has advanced the range of
Enduro bikes without compromise for 2013. All existing models
have received intensive and detailed improvements in all of the
important areas. The intention: to offer all EXC four- and twostroke
riders a better Enduro combination of riding fun,
performance, responsiveness and durability.

Big Minis
KTM wouldn’t be KTM if the KTM Offroad Team had not
included the three Minicycle models with 50, 65 und 85 cc into
its development activities. This serious approach is best
underscored by the almost completely new 85 SX that presents
the up-and-coming junior MX racer with a clear vision of the
world of professional competition.

While in Italy for the presentation together with Pit Beirer, KTM’s
head of Motorsport, Stefan Pierer, CEO KTM Sportmotorcycle
AG, underlined the importance of the new Offroad generation.
“What KTM has accomplished thanks to the tireless efforts of
the technicians and the racers is unique. All of the KTM
company is based on this strong foundation. To do justice in its
roll as “number one”, it has been full throttle in every way for
KTM to achieve what it has for this latest model year.”

Another tradition continues in the Model Year 2013 in the form
of the popular “Six Days”. Equipped with the finest extras, such
as a completely newly developed WP closed cartridge fork with
an innovative 4-chamber damping system, the Six Days models
are available in seven different motor variants (125 EXC, 250
EXC, 300 EXC, 250 EXC-F, 350 EXC-F, 450 EXC and 500
EXC) and come in the German national colours.

Thanks to its enormous wealth of experience and an optimal
development structure it has been possible for KTM to further
expand the range of its very own performance-enhancing
PowerParts range in 2013. And let’s not forget the unique choice
of matching quality clothing and accessories.

The fourth round of the Enduro World Championship held in Torres Vedras, Portugal was one of mixed fortunes for Beta’s Enduro Factory Team riders. With the GP of Portugal Marking the halfway point in the 2012 EWC season, Enduro 3 rider Marko Tarkkala improved his pace over the opening three rounds of the series to finish a competitive seventh on day two. Marko’s team-mate Oscar Balletti placed eighth on day one in the Enduro 2 class.

Confident of a strong result in the dry and dusty Portuguese conditions, Balletti started day one in a confident mood by setting the fifth fastest time in the opening extreme test. However, following a couple of small mistakes on the final lap of the race he regrettably dropped back down the finishing order to place eighth. Determined to improve on his result, the Italian held seventh position leading into the final lap of the second day. Unfortunately, numerous mistakes proved costly for the Beta rider and it pushed him back to 11th overall in the highly competitive Enduro 2 class.

For Enduro 3 rider Marko Tarkkala the GP of Portugal brought a notable improvement in form over the GP of Euskadi in Spain, held just one week earlier. Finishing ninth on day one, the Finnish rider ended day two in a very competitive seventh place. Making some small adjustments to his Beta RR498, Tarkkala instantly upped his pace to maintain sixth position leading into the final special test of the weekend. However a small crash on the slippery cross test dropped him back to seventh. Nevertheless it was a satisfactory weekend for the Finnish rider.

Marko Tarkkala (Enduro 3): “ Day two was a good improvement for me . I had a good fight for sixth position but ended the day in seventh when I made a mistake in the final cross test. Overall I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made this weekend. I felt much better in my riding and was able to maintain a fast pace throughout the day. I hope that with a bit more work I can achieve my goal of finishing on the podium in Italy.”

Fabrizio Dini (Team Manager): “*This weekend was a step forward in terms of our competiveness on the track*. On day one Marko struggled to find a comfortable rhythm and finished ninth but on day two he made some small adjustments to the bike that helped him to improve his pace and finish seventh. He was much more confident in his riding and he’s beginning to show the form we know he’s capable of.
It was a difficult weekend for Oscar in Enduro 2. The class is so competitive at the moment that any mistake is very difficult to recover from. After finishing seventh on day one, he started off day two very fast. However, a crash on the final lap pushed him back to 11th. Overall this weekend has been a big improvement for us and I feel that with few weeks to prepare for the GP of Italy we will be capable of a successful result.”

The Enduro World Championship continues on June 30/ July 1 with the GP of Italy.

Husaberg’s success in the 2012 Enduro World Championship continues in Portugal as the eight-round series reaches the mid-way point

Husaberg’s Pela Renet has strengthened his lead in the Enduro 2 World Championship standings following what was a highly successful GP of Portugal for both the Frenchman and the Husaberg Factory Team. With conditions in Torres Vedras more similar to those at the season opening GPs of Chile and Argentina than the recent GP of Euskadi, Renet finished as runner-up behind countryman Johnny Aubert on day one before securing victory and placing as the outright fastest rider in the event on day two.

“It’s been a great weekend for me,” commented Renet. “After the wetter conditions last weekend it was a lot more like what we had in South America, but the ground here in Portugal was extremely slippery. Everything went well on the first day – I pushed hard but Johnny Aubert was really fast. Finishing in second position was great for my championship though. I pushed really hard on the first lap on day two and managed to make really good times on the motocross and enduro tests. I had to keep pushing all the day because Johnny and Cristobal Guerrero were both very close. But, I managed to win so it as a very good end to a perfect weekend. We’re half way through the series now and I have a good lead in the Enduro 2 class. Things couldn’t be better.”

For Husaberg’s best finishing Enduro 3 class rider Oriol Mena the GP of Portugal started in the worst possible way with a costly crash on the Friday night super test. Upside down just meters after the start, Mena was lucky not to do serious damage to either himself or his bike. Quickly on the pace on day one Oriol’s speed and consistency should have seen him finish as runner-up, were it not for his Friday night mistake. Showing that he had the speed to finish on the podium on day two that’s exactly what he did, securing a deserved runner-up result. Although not able to match the pace of class winner Christophe Nambotin, Mena placed ahead of Estonian Aigar Leok, strengthening his position in the E3 championship standings in the process.

“Generally it’s been a really good weekend,” confirmed Oriol from the podium. “It started in a really bad way when I crashed in the extreme test. I’m not sure exactly what happened but I ended up off the track with my bike upside down, which lost me about 13 seconds. After that it got much better. I really felt good and liked the dry terrain. I knew I had to push hard to take back the time I’d lost. At the end of the day I was fourth, but close to the podium – I was happy with that. On day two I really pushed hard on the first lap. Again I felt good and, well, the day went well. To finish second is very good. It’s been a good weekend for me.”

Oriol’s E3 class team-mate Joakim Ljunggren didn’t have as good a weekend but nevertheless importantly scored strong championship points and moved into the runner-up spot behind class leader Nambotin. Struggling to find his rhythm around the dry but slippery motocross and enduro special tests, Joakim placed one spot behind Oriol on day one in fifth and in fourth on day two.
“It’s been a tough weekend for me,” admitted the Swede, “The motocross and enduro tests were both very similar and both not really what I like. The ground was very hard and slippery and I found it difficult to push. But the extreme test was good and most importantly I took some more championship points and at the half way point in the series I’m really pleased with everything. Some weekends you have a track that you really like, other times not. Of course I would have liked better results but it’s not been a bad weekend.”

In the Enduro Junior class Mathias Bellino was in dominant form in Portugal, finishing more than one-minute ahead of his closest rival on both days. With the hard, dry and fast enduro and motocross special tests very much to his liking it was Mathias’ performances on the technically challenging extreme test that in many ways were his most impressive. Fast and consistent throughout the weekend on day two he was the fastest Enduro Junior class rider on all nine special tests. At the half way point of the EWC series Mathias sits 43 points ahead in the EJ championship standings.

“It’s been a great weekend for me,” explained Mathias at the end of another tough event. “I’ve really enjoyed the special tests, including the extreme test, I finished more than one-minute ahead on both days, and didn’t have any problems on either day. It really was a great weekend. The motocross and the enduro tests were very similar and I liked both of them, which really helped me. Now I have a good lead in the Enduro Junior championship so I’m looking forward to the second half of the series.”

Blandine Dufrene secured a podium result for Husaberg in the Enduro Women’s class on day one with third but was forced out of the second day’s competition with an injury.

Husqvarna Enduro Team by CH Racing’s Matti Seistola made two visits to the Enduro 1 class podium at the Enduro World Championship’s GP of Portugal, bringing a welcome turn around in form and an end to what has been a tough start to the 2012 series for the Finnish rider. Third on day one to claim his first EWC rostrum result of the year, Matti then went one better on day two by claiming a well-deserved runner-up result aboard his TE 250.

With conditions in Portugal much drier and hotter than the previous week’s GP of Euskadi, the fourth round of the 2012 Enduro World Championship proved to be yet another demanding event. Offering no let up for competitors, the lack of a true enduro test meant that much of the event’s racing was carried on dry, dusty and in many places slippery ground. In complete contrast to both the motocross and enduro tests the event’s extreme test was technically challenging.

Recording the third fastest time in the Enduro 1 class during Friday night’s super test, Matti Seistola immediately made his intentions of wanting to secure a top three result on day one known. Completing a solid opening lap Matti battled with countryman Eero Remes for much of the day before eventually placing third. Day two saw more impressive riding from Matti. With his confidence returning, he pushed hard throughout the day to keep the pressure on eventual day winner Antoine Meo. Opening up a small gap over the third placed finisher Rodrig Thain, Matti secured his best result of the season so far and claimed the Husqvarna Racing Team by CH Racing’s best result at the GP of Portugal.

Disappointingly, Seistola’s Enduro 1 class team-mate Lorenzo Santolino fractured a bone in his left foot on the opening day’s final extreme test. Although managing to end the day and secure a ninth place result the Spaniard was unable to take to the start of the second day’s competition.

The GP of Portugal proved to be a tough one for Husqvarna’s Enduro 2 class riders Juha Salminen, Alex Salvini and Romain Dumontier. Salminen came agonisingly close to finishing on the podium on day one only to place fourth, while Salvini placed just five seconds away from the podium on day two. Like many riders both Juha and Alex found the long, fast enduro and motocross special tests difficult to master with the Finn placing sixth in class on day two while Alex could manage no better than seventh on day one. Next up for the Enduro World Championship is the Husqvarna Enduro Team by CH Racing’s home event – the GP of Italy, on June 30/July 1.

Matti Seistola – Enduro 1: ‘I feel really good because I can see we have made really good progress this weekend. The first three GPs of the season didn’t go anything like we hoped they would, but finally now it seems like things are back on track. I made quite a few changes to my bike after the race in Spain and as soon as I tried it on the test track for this weekend I could feel that it was much easier to ride – like I wanted it to be. It took me a little while to feel at my best on day one. I was a little cautious and the motocross and enduro tests were quite difficult because they were dry and slippery. I felt a lot more confident starting the second day. I knew what to expect from the special tests and just tried to build on my day one result. It’s been a very important GP and I’m really, really pleased that I’m back on the podium.’

Juha Salminen – Enduro 2: ‘It’s not been the best of weekends for me. The first day wasn’t too bad. I didn’t get the result I wanted, but it can happen. Not having a real enduro test certainly didn’t help this weekend, but that’s how it was. I hoped the second day would be better but unfortunately it wasn’t. The next GP is in Italy so I hope things will be better there.’

Alex Salvini – Enduro 2: ‘Day one didn’t go so well for me. I made a good start but after that I had a few problems and made some mistakes, so not what I had hoped for. I felt much better on the second day and I was fighting for the podium, which was really good. I ended up fourth but only five or six seconds behind third. The Enduro 2 class is incredibly competitive so to be fighting for the podium is great. The next event is in Italy, so I want to fight again for a top three result.’

KTM’s Enduro factory riders picked up another slew of podiums in this weekend’s Rounds 7 & 8 of the Enduro World Championship at Torres Vedras in Portugal but the outstanding rider for the Orange team was undoubtedly Christophe Nambotin of France.

Nambotin has proved to be the dominant force in this year’s competition as the season reaches its half way mark as he continued his charge this weekend with another two victories. On Sunday he won all the tests in the hot and dusty conditions but admitted it had been a good but tough day. “I did win all the tests and I liked the extreme test but it was very difficult physically today,” the Frenchman commented. Nambotin also thanked teammate David Knight for his help on Saturday when he had trouble in the river crossing during the final liaison. “If it wasn’t for his help it may not have been possible to finish,” he said.

Sunday proved to be a better day for Antoine Meo in E1 who also came to Portugal with an unblemished score card for the first six rounds. Meo failed to finish on Saturday after hitting a rock in the Extreme test that was built into a disused quarry. This damaged the engine casing, the engine lost all the oil and he was forced to retire. Sunday was a happier day for Meo. “I made a big mistake yesterday but I am very happy today,” the French rider said after resuming his usual place on Sunday on the top of the podium. He said the team were right behind him and had worked very hard to make sure he could race on Sunday.

Meo’s E1 teammate Eero Remes picked up a strong second place on Saturday just five second behind the leader Rodrig Thain and followed it up as fourth fastest on Sunday. He went well throughout the three x 70 km laps, except in the Extreme test where he was 3 x seventh. Meo still holds a commanding lead in the E1 standings, 31 points ahead of second placed Thain. Eero Remes is currently third.

The KTM factory team also celebrated the return of the popular Johnny Aubert to the top of the E2 podium on Saturday. The Frenchman was fast again on Sunday, if not quite fast enough to take the first place away from rival Pierre-Alexandre Renet. He did well in most tests but also lost some time in the difficult Extreme Test. He had a difficult start to his season in the first four rounds in South America but his 1-2 for the weekend earned him enough points to move up to fourth in the standings and he now trails Juha Salminen in third by just one point.

After Saturday’s outing Aubert said he felt comfortable on his KTM 450 EXC and was pleased to return to dominance by leading the race from an early stage. KTM factory team boss Fabio Farioli also praised the efforts of Aubert’s E2 teammate Cristobal Guerrero who was fifth on Saturday in a field where the top five were very close. In fact the Spanish rider was deprived fourth place by just two hundredths of a second. Guerrero wrapped up his weekend with a podium third on Sunday.

KTM riders in the EJ class were also up with the best this weekend. On Saturday Rudi Moroni of Italy and Mario Roman of Spain finished 2-3 while Cristobal Guerrero’s younger brother Victor scored a podium third on Sunday. Giacomo Redondi wrapped up another two wins in the Enduro Youth Cup to remain unbeaten in the competition.

Of all the Orange factory riders it was only only Nambotin’s E3 teammate David Knight who failed to find his rhythm on the bike this weekend in Portugal. He finished with a 7-13 result in the two rounds and is now fourth in the standings. He now has a chance to regroup before the next two rounds in Italy on June 30-July 1, 2012.

Antoine MEO, Pierre-Alexandre RENET and Christophe NAMBOTIN enjoyed a winning result on day two at the Maxxis Enduro World Championship GP Polisport of Portugal.

Spain’s Laia SANZ (Gas Gas) defeated France’s Ludivine PUY (Gas Gas) to win the Women’s Cup while France’s Mathias BELLINO (Husaberg) continued his dominating run in Enduro Junior to claim his sixth victory of 2012.

France’s Antoine MEO (KTM) put his disappointment of retiring on day one behind him to secure his seventh win of year with victory on day two in Enduro 1. Finishing second on the first Enduro Test of the morning, MEO quickly got to work on the dry and dusty conditions to set the fastest time in six of the day’s nine special tests.“It was unfortunate not to finish yesterday but today I needed to make amends for my mistake,” commented MEO. “I was a little unsure of the conditions during lap one so I was careful not to make any mistakes. After that I began to push hard and was able to win comfortably.”Finding the Cross Test to his liking, Finland’s Matti SEISTOLA (Husqvarna) was on top form on day two. Enjoying a tough battle with France’s Rodrig THAIN (HM Honda), the Finnish rider eventually beat his rival to secure second position by less than one-second. Adding to his winning result on day one, THAIN ended day two in third place. Although matching the pace of SEISTOLA and THAIN during the early morning, Finland’s Eero REMES (KTM) finished fourth. France’s Jeremy JOLY (Yamaha) rounded out the top five.

Pierre-Alexandre RENET (F – Husaberg) returned to the top of the Enduro 2 standings on day two. Etching out an early lead after the first Enduro Test of the morning, RENET maintained his pace throughout the day to secure an eight-second victory over KTM’s Johnny AUBERT (F). Recording his fourth victory of year, RENET now holds a 15-point lead in Enduro 2 as the championship passes the halfway point in the season.“It was a tough race,” remarked RENET. “I managed to set a fast pace early on and it was enough to hold off Johnny to secure the win and extend my championship lead.”While unable to record another victory in Enduro 2, AUBERT ended his GP of Portugal with a podium result. Matching RENET’S pace during the final lap of the race, AUBERT finished nine seconds behind the Husaberg rider. Spain’s Cristobal GUERRERO (KTM) improved on his fifth place result on day one to secure a podium finish with third on day two. After a fierce battle with GUERRERO, Italy’s Alex SALVINI (Husqvarna) finally placed just five seconds behind the Spaniard to finish fourth. France’s Jeremy TARROUX (KTM) produced a solid result to end his weekend in fifth.

It was another winning performance by France’s Christophe NAMBOTIN (KTM) in Enduro 3 as he recorded his eighth consecutive victory of the season. Mastering the dry and slippery special tests, the Frenchman remained unbeaten throughout the day to top his class by 67 seconds. “I’m really happy with my result today as I managed to win all the special tests,” confirmed NAMBOTIN at the end of day two. “Although I have a 50-point lead in the championship, my goal is to keep focused on each day and try to do the best I can. In Italy I will keep fighting for victory.”Spain’s Oriol MENA (Husaberg) led a three-way battle to claim second position in Enduro 3. Setting a fast pace on the long Enduro Test, MENA held off Estonia’s Aigar LEOK (TM) and Sweden’s Joakim LJUNGGREN (Husaberg) to record his best result of the season. Adding to his third place result on day one, LEOK ended day two less than ten seconds behind MENA to finish third.Finishing fourth, LJUNGGREN now moves up to second overall in the championship standings placing just one-point in front of LEOK. Gas Gas’ Sebastien GUILLAUME (F) completed the top five.

France’s Mathias BELLINO (Husaberg) claimed another comfortable victory in Enduro Junior by winning all of the day’s nine special tests. Making a slow start to the morning, Spain’s Victor GUERRERO (KTM) overhauled Britain’s Danny MCCANNEY (Gas Gas) on the final lap to secure second. With MCCANNEY recording his second podium result of the weekend with third place, Italy’s Rudi MORONI (KTM) and Jonathan MANZI (KTM) finished fourth and fifth respectively.Italy’s Giacomo REDONDI (KTM) was once again victorious in the Enduro Youth Cup finishing over 30 seconds clear of runner up Portugal’s Luis OLIVERIA (Yamaha) and Italy’s Matteo BRESOLIN (Husaberg).

Fortunes were reversed on day two in the Women’s Cup as Laia SANZ (Gas Gas) claimed victory. After her second place result on day one, the Spaniard started day two in a determined fashion. Beating her teammate, Ludivine PUY (F – Gas Gas) on all but three of the day’s special tests, SANZ secured her third victory of the season. With PUY finishing second, France’s Audrey ROSSAT (KTM) took advantage of Husaberg’s Blandine DUFRENE’S (F) early retirement to claim third. The Australian duo of Jessica GARDINER (Yamaha) and Jemma WILSON (Yamaha) placed fourth and fifth respectively.

The Maxxis Enduro World Championship continues with round five in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy on June 30-July 01.

Rodrig THAIN, Johnny AUBERT and Christophe NAMBOTIN secure victory on day one at round four of the Maxxis Enduro World Championship in Torres Vedras, Portugal. Mathias BELLINO claims a winning result in Enduro Junior while defending champion Ludivine PUY tops the Women’s Cup.

Marking the halfway point in the 2012 season, day one at the GP Polisport of Portugal was full of surprises as the series saw new winners emerge and championship contenders retire.
KTM’s Johnny AUBERT (F) finally returned to his winning ways with a commanding victory in Enduro 2. HM Honda’s Rodrig Thain (F) secured his first win of 2012 in Enduro 1 while Gas Gas’ Ludivine PUY (F) beat her teammate Laia SANZ (S – Gas Gas) to top the Women’s Cup.

However, it was the retirement of Enduro 1 championship leader Antoine MEO (F – KTM) that became the biggest talking point of day one. Damaging his engine casings on the liaison section on lap one, the Frenchman was forced to stop. Italy’s Simone ALBERGONI (HM Honda) was next to follow him when he crashed heavily on the second Cross Test, while in Enduro 2 Spain’s Ivan CERVANTES ended his day early on lap one after a technical issue with his Gas Gas. Taking advantage of the early departures of MEO and ALBERGONI, Rodrig THAIN battled his way to the front of the field in Enduro 1 at the end of lap two. Setting some impressive times in the technically demanding Extreme Test, the HM Honda rider held off the late charge by Finland’s Eero REMES (KTM) to win the day. “I have been waiting for this moment all year,” commented THAIN. “When MEO and ALBERGONI retired I knew that I needed to attack and take advantage of the situation. I’m so happy to have finally won a race – it’s been a big relief to win.” Charging hard towards the end of the race, KTM’s REMES was also determined to capitalise on the day’s early retirements. However, falling just five seconds short of victory, REMES had to be content with second. After a tough battle with France’s Fabien PLANET (Sherco) for third place, Finland’s Matti SEISTOLA (Husqvarna) put in his best performance of his season to claim the third step of the podium.
Setting the fastest time in the KTM Super Test, PLANET finished fourth, just two seconds behind SEISTOLA, while France’s Jeremy JOLY (Yamaha) secured fifth.

Johnny AUBERT firmly stamped his authority on day one in Enduro 2 in Portugal. Making a fast start to the morning, the KTM rider quickly opened up a ten-second lead at the end of lap two. Fastest on the Cross Test, AUBERT maintained his advantage to secure his first victory of 2012. “Everything went excellent today,” confirmed AUBERT. “I felt very comfortable with my bike and was able to lead the race early on. It’s nice to finally get my first victory of the season.” After his double victory just one week earlier in Spain, France’s Pierre-Alexandre RENET (Husaberg) finished 20 seconds behind Aubert. Unable to match the pace set by the KTM rider, RENET maintains his championship lead with the runner up position. In only his second race in 2012, France’s Jeremy TARROUX (KTM) has already recorded his first podium result by finishing in third place on day one in Portugal. Ending his day fourth, Finland’s Juha SALMINEN (Husqvarna) finished a very slender one-second behind TARROUX. Spain’s Cristobal GUERRERO (KTM) placed just two hundredths of a second behind SALMINEN to end his day in fifth.

In Enduro 3 it was France’s Christophe NAMBOTIN (KTM) who once again lead the way. Winning all of day one’s special tests bar the KTM Super Test, NAMBOTIN comfortably placed almost 90 seconds clear of Gas Gas’s Sebastien GUILLAUME (F). “It’s great to win again but it was a tough race for me,” remarked NAMBOTIN. “I struggled to find a comfortable rhythm on the very dry and dusty Cross Test but in the Extreme Test I could set a fast pace. I must also thank my teammate David KNIGHT (GB – KTM) for his very generous help. I drowned my bike in the river crossing during the final liaison section and if it wasn’t for his help it may not have been possible to finish.” With NAMBOTIN the clear winner of Enduro 3, it was GUILLAUME that claimed second overall. Setting an incredibly fast time in the final Cross Test of the day, GUILLAUME secured his first podium result with Gas Gas. Returning to the top three for the first time since round one in Chile, Estonia’s Aigar LEOK (TM) finished two tenths of a second behind GUILLAUME for third. Spain’s Oriol MENA (Husaberg) put in a solid ride to finish fourth while Finland’s Joakim LJUNGGREN (Husaberg) completed the top five.

Proving to be a rider very much on top form, France’s Mathias BELLINO (Husaberg) recorded another winning result in Enduro Junior. Making his way to the podium for the first time in 2012, Italy’s Rudi MORONI (KTM) beat Spain’s Mario ROMAN (KTM) to finish in second place. With ROMAN securing third, Britain’s Danny MCCANNEY (Gas Gas) produced another strong result to finish fourth. Argentina’s Kevin BENAVIDES (KTM) rounded out the top five. Claiming his sixth win of the season, Italy’s Giacomo REDONDI (KTM) was the clear winner of the Enduro Youth Cup. Portugal’s Luis OLIVERIA (Yamaha) ended day one at his home race on the podium with second place while Guido CONFORTI (Yamaha) completed the top five.

Ludivine PUY returned to her winning ways by clinching victory in the Women’s Cup. Beating her rival and teammate Spain’s Laia SANZ by less than three seconds, day one was a perfect start to her GP of Portugal. With SANZ finishing second, France’s Blandine DUFRENE (Husaberg) finished third with Juliette BERREZ (F – TM) and Audrey ROSSAT (F – KTM) completing the top five.

Decidedly this year, the KTM Super Test success admirably well to the Frenchies. After Rodrig THAIN (F – HM Honda) in Chile, Marc BOURGEOIS (F – Yam) in Basque Country it is Fabien PLANET (F – Sherco) who won it in Torres Vedras.

From the first duels, the public felt that this really fast Super Test can gives them nice emotions. Everything was proceeding quietly in FIM Youth Cup 125cc with a Giacomo REDONDI (I – KTM) ahead Luis OLIVEIRA (P – Yam) and Guido CONFORTI (I – Yam). That’s when Mathias BELLINO (F – Husaberg) decided to turn up the heat a notch with a monstrous time of 1’34’’78, relaying his pursuer Danny MCCANNEY (GB – Gas Gas) to 4 seconds.

At this time, the official Husaberg appeared to be heading to a nice victory but, while Gonçalo REIS (P – Gas Gas), local of the stage, enthused the public, Fabien PLANET (F – Sherco), in grace, atomized the time of BELLINO with a stratospheric time of 1’32’’44. The pure riding style and the risk-taking of the official Sherco have paid.
Alex SALVINI (I – HVA) tried to steal him the victory but with a time of 1’33’’92 it was not enough while David KNIGHT (GB – KTM), 1’34’’71 won the Enduro 3 class.

To note that in Women class Ludivine PUY (F – Gas Gas) won, relaying her rival Laïa SANZ (E – Gas Gas) to 8 seconds.

See you tomorrow at 9 o’clock for the great beginnings of the World elite in the Portuguese special tests. The public, to which the EWC has offered a great spectacle this evening, must come numerous on the three special tests of the Grand Prix Polisport of Portugal.

Delivery of hand-crafted off-road bike starting in October 2012, prices start at 18.850 Euro + VAT

German Zschopau-based motorcycle manufacturer ZPmoto is launching its first model ZPsport 449 in 2012. The off-road bike is a tribute to the world championship winning machines of former decades and combines classical values with modern technology. Developed and hand-crafted at the traditional site of Zschopau, the bike will be launched in October as a small-series road-legal model starting at a base price of 18.850 Euro + VAT. Accessories, coating and some materials and finishing are customizable. The prototype though which is now shown for the very first time is set up in the traditional colours of Zschopau and originating DKW works which are black, green and white. ZPsport 449 will also be the first motorcycle made in Zschopau in almost 40 years to wear the city coat of arms.

But not only in appearance does the ZPsport 449 relate to the history of German motorcycle manufacturing. Traditional values are in focus as well. Handling, low weight, moderate sitting height of about 860 mm and well-usable power have been crucial in developing the bike. It is weighting in at 130 kilograms ready to go (dry weight: 118 kilograms) and for that reason delivers pure joy both on and off the roads. ZPsport 449 is the perfect choice for exciting countryside tours or short trips in the evening or on week-ends.

The tank will hold about 12 liters of fuel which will reach for way over 200 kilometers. It is sitting in the frame directly under the driver’s centre of gravity. As it fulfills Euro 3 exhaust emission standard the 449 cc single-cylinder engine is pretty economical to run. Supplied by Spanish brand Gas Gas, the engine is set up and tuned in Zschopau. Having a completely new ZPmoto-created intake and exhaust system the single so far had an output of 45 hp at comfortable 6.200 rpm and maximum torque of 52 Nm at 5.500 rpm in recent test runs. There are six gears to choose from.

Determining for the whole concept of the bike has also been the tubular steel frame with two downstand beams. Combined with the swing-arm made of high-hardness steel and the suspension components it reacts fast to the inputs of the driver and gives reliable feedback. The two rear dampers developed by Öhlins and the classical front fork developed in cooperation with MUPO are both fully adjustable in preload, rebound and compression stage. Brembo is equipping the braking system with a 260 mm disc and two piston calipers in front and a 220 mm disc and single piston caliper at the rear. Besides the off-road tires shown here in 90/90-21 front and 140/80-18 rear from Metzeler there will also be a touring tire in same sizes available from factory. Able hands in and around Zschopau are crafting and refining seat, fairings, fenders and accessories.

Not without reason the ZPsport 449 is launching in 2012. The first German motorcycle was built in Zschopau-based DKW works 90 years ago in 1922. So enthusiasts who pre-order the ZPsport 449 will take delivery of their hand-crafted German motorcycle starting in October and will get the first frame numbers matching the anniversary year. From 2013 on there will be only 50 motorcycles build a year which means about one unique motorcycle every week.

RECORD REGISTRATIONS TO THE 1ST ROUND OF THE ENDURO EC

The organisers of the first round of the Enduro European Championship, scheduled on the 26th and 27th of May 2012 in Arsié (Italy), informed that until now they received the registration of 235 riders, among them only 50 coming from Italy.

The rest is coming from different European countries, also from countries that participate to the Championship for the first time (for example Croatia and Lithuania).
This record number of registration to this championship is a further confirmation of the value, also under a promotional point of view, of this event. Furthermore, it is important to highlight that 71 riders belong to the Junior classes, which is a good sign for the future of this discipline.
In Arsié will be held also the single round of the UEM Cup of the 50 cc class.

Only one week after the GP AMV Seguros of Euskadi, the Maxxis FIM Enduro World Championship is on the way to the Portugal and more precisely to Torres Vedras after 900 kilometers across the both countries.

Great First for the Clube Ecomotor

The Federaçao de Motociclismo de Portugal (FMP), chaired by Jorge VIEGAS, is a regular of the EWC and of the Iberia tour. But for the first time, with the agreement of the Federation International of Motociclisme, it is the Clube Ecomotor that will have the honors to organize this Portuguese stage. This Moto Club, created in 2011 and chaired by Licinio ANICETO, has already organized two rounds of national Supercross and one of the Portuguese Enduro Championship at the beginning of the season. It’s a very dynamic and ambitious club.

The Clube Ecomotor, with the help of Gio SALA (Race Inspector) and Pedro MARIANO (Race Director), has prepared a track of 55 kilometers which will be ridden 4 times each day during the two days of race with, like in Basque country, two Time Checks. The paddock will be situated in the Parque do Exposiçoes, in the center of Torres Vedras. The Xtreme Test will be located in Pedreira do Figueiredo and will make 1.2 kilometers length. It will also feature a Time Check. The Cross Test and the Enduro Test will take place both in Quinta do Calvel and will have a 6 kilometers length approximately. On its side, the KTM Super Test of the Friday, May 11th will be in Parque do Exposiçoes, just in front of the paddock. The nature of track, trails and special tests will depend, like in Munitibar, of the weather forecast that must be, fortunately, sunny.

Torres Vedras is situated in the District of Lisbon and in the region Center. This charming city, of 405 km2, has more than 75 000 inhabitants. Great wine city, Torres Vedras is just 70 kilometers North of the capital Lisbon and 173 kilometers South of Coimbra. Surrounded by wineries, Torres Vedras is famous wine growing region…

Enduro 2: Very Indecisive!

More we are going in the season and more the Enduro 2 class is indecisive. The new leader Pierre-Alexandre RENET (F – Husaberg) will have to be strong to continue his winning streak. But Cristobal GUERRERO (E – KTM), Juha SALMINEN (SF – HVA) and the comeback of Johnny AUBERT (F – KTM) will do their possible to stop the Normand. Medial to its usual performances in Spain, Ivan CERVANTES (E – Gas Gas) will have only one goal regain his leader place while Alex SALVINI (I – HVA) and Oscar BALLETTI (I – Beta) will have to ride strongly to be not so far from the Big 5. Finally, the British Jordan ROSE (TM) can play the spoiler after excellent debuts while Luis CORREIA (P – Yam) will be at home with the fervor of the public.

Antoine MEO (F – KTM) continues to literally dominate the “small bikes” class. With a perfect score of 120 points on the standing of the Enduro 1 the Frenchie left no place to his opponents. On his side, Simone ALBERGONI (I – HM Honda), with a nice come back this season, will want to consolidate his second place and to avoid the return of his teammate Rodrig THAIN (F – HM Honda). The official HM Honda, disappointing in the Basque country, must really want to take his revenge, putting back Eero REMES (SF – KTM) and Thomas OLDRATI (I – KTM). After his spectacular crash in Munitibar, Marc BOURGEOIS (F – Yam) has been place on the day-to-day list for this Grand Prix. For Nicolas DEPARROIS (F – Kawa) and Fabien PLANET (F – Sherco), they will have to confirm their good results saw in Spain.

In Enduro 3, the official KTM David KNIGHT (GB), still without any victory, will try the all out to stop Christophe NAMBOTIN (F – KTM) who was, once again, untouchable during the past weekend. The British, author of impact statements in Munitibar, must recover and will offer to the French a big resistance just like the official Husaberg Joakim LJUNGGREN (S) who has confirmed is return to good fit and is seriously back on the leading duo. On his side, the Latvian Aigar LEOK (TM) has lost precious points in the race for the Top 3 and will have to face the rise of Oriol MENA (E – Husaberg) while Marcus KEHR (D – KTM) will look, for sure, to reach his firs podium of the season. Marko TARKKALA (SF – Beta) will have to catch up of his poor Grand Prix of Euskadi. Special note for Christophe ROBERT (CH – Husaberg) who can play the spoiler.

Can Lulu stem Laïa?

In Junior, the Frenchie Mathias BELLINO (Husaberg) with his new double in Spain will arrive in Torres Vedras with for only main goal to make the gap on the standing with the Bordone Ferrari rider Jonathan MANZI (I – KTM) and the British Danny MCCANNEY (Gas Gas). The two KTM riders Victor GUERRERO (E) and Kevin BENAVIDES (ARG) will do the necessary to be not so far from those three riders while we are expecting more of the 2011 vice-champion Mario ROMAN (E – KTM). In FIM Youth Cup 125cc, Giacomo REDONDI (I – KTM), ever-present leader of the class, will have to be careful with the local Luis OLIVEIRA (P – Yam) and the two Italian riders Matteo BRESOLIN (Husaberg) and Guido CONFORTI (Yamaha).

Finally in Enduro Women, Ludivine PUY (F – Gas Gas) we’ll really have to wake up quickly if she doesn’t want to see her dreams of World Title moving away. Indeed, the French has been totally dominated by a Laïa SANZ (E – Gas Gas) in grace. The fight for the third place will be between Blandine DUFRENE (F – Husaberg), Audrey ROSSAT (F – KTM), the Swedish Jessica JONSSON (S – Gas Gas) and Juliette BERREZ (F – TM). After their encouraging start, Jessica GARDINER (AUS – Yam) and Jemma WILSON (AUS – Yam) will try to reach the Top 5.

This Grand Prix Polisport of Portugal is really expected in a region that never had a motorcycling event of this magnitude. We bet that the fresh new Clube Ecomotor will have gathered all the elements to make of this stage a great popular celebration in the Center South of Portugal where the public, awaited, will mix Enduro and tableware.

The French continue to deliver winning results in the Maxxis FIM Enduro World Championship as Antoine MEO, Pierre-Alexandre RENET and Christophe NAMBOTIN secure victory on Day Two at the GP of Euskadi in Munitibar, Spain.

With heavy overnight rain ensuring a physical and demanding day of racing, it was once again the French that claimed victory in the Senior classes. However the day was also one to remember for exceptional results and costly retirements. Making his EWC debut, Britain’s Jordan ROSE claimed an incredible result in Enduro 2 by finishing fifth. In Enduro 1 the day ended prematurely for championship contenders Marc BOURGEOIS (F – Yamaha) and Finland’s Eero REMES (KTM). With both riders pushing for a podium result, BOURGEOIS crashed heavily on the second Enduro Test while REMES was forced to retire due to a technical fault with his bike.

France’s Christophe NAMBOTIN (KTM) continues to remain unbeatable in Enduro 3. Making short work of the slippery early morning special tests, the KTM rider quickly edged out a sizeable advantage over his nearest rivals. Again producing some of the fastest times of the day on the all-important Enduro Test, NAMBOTIN secured his sixth victory of the season.
“It’s been yet another fantastic day for me,” confirmed NAMBOTIN. “I was able to set a fast pace in the morning and open up a nice lead. From there I tried to build on it throughout the day to win.”
With NAMBOTIN setting a blistering pace out front, it was the duel behind him for second that stole most of the focus. Starting the morning in a determined fashion, Sweden’s Joakim LJUNGGREN (Husaberg) was able to hold off a challenge from Britain’s David KNIGHT (KTM) to finish as runner up. Struggling to match the pace of his rivals in the muddy conditions, KNIGHT dropped back to finish in third place.
Germany’s Marcus KEHR (KTM) produced his best ride of the season so far to secure fourth while Spain’s Oriol MENA (Husaberg) finished less than 20 seconds behind KEHR to complete the top five.

Working hard to overcome a difficult start to the day, France’s Antoine MEO (KTM) once again topped the Enduro 1 standings. Crashing twice in the opening Cross Test, MEO set about working his way back to the front. Securing the fastest times on both the technical Enduro Test and the rutted Extreme Test, he took control of proceedings to claim his sixth win of the season.
“I’m so happy with my result today,” remarked MEO. “This morning I crashed in the Cross Test and it set me back. I had to work hard to overcome that and thankfully was able to win again.”
Recording his best result of the season so far, Italy’s Thomas OLDRATI (KTM) was second in Enduro 1. Taking advantage of the retirement by both REMES and BOURGEOIS, the KTM rider fended off a challenge by Italy’s Simone ALBERGONI (HM Honda) to finish as runner up. ALBERGONI improved on his previous day’s result of fourth to secure his fourth podium result in 2012 with third.
Sherco’s Fabien PLANET (F) put in a strong ride to place fourth while France’s Nicolas DEPARROIS (Kawasaki) benefitted from his early morning pace to finish in fifth.

France’s Pierre-Alexandre RENET (Husaberg) rejoiced in the muddy Spanish conditions to claim his second victory of the weekend in Enduro 2. Engaged in a fierce battle with Spain’s Cristobal GUERRERO (KTM), RENET was able to hold off the advances of the KTM rider to capture his third victory of the season and with it the championship lead in Enduro 2.
“The conditions suited me perfectly this weekend,” commented RENET. “I felt very comfortable on the bike in the muddy ruts and could maintain a strong pace. It was a good battle with GUERRERO for victory and I’m happy to have won.”
Keen to impress at his home Grand Prix, GUERRERO held a slender lead after the second Extreme Test. Making a costly crash on the final Enduro Test, he eventually had to settle for second place. Finland’s Juha SALMINEN (Husqvarna) delivered a better result on day two to finish in third.
France’s Johnny AUBERT (KTM) recovered from a poor start to his morning to finish fourth. Recording one of the standout performances of the day, Britain’s Jordan ROSE (TM) placed fifth in his debut race in the EWC.

In Enduro Junior France’s Mathias BELLINO (Husaberg) claimed a double victory at the GP of Euskadi. Facing a stiffer challenge from his class competitors, his winning margin was much tighter on Day Two.
Battling back from a crash on the second Extreme Test, Italy’s Jonathan MANZI (KTM) pipped Britain’s Danny MCCANNEY (GAS GAS) by one-second to secure the runner up position. MCCANNEY returned to the podium for the third time this season to finish in third.
Hampered by his 10-second morning penalty, Britain’s Alex ROCKWELL (Husaberg) ended his day fourth while Argentina’s Kevin BENAVIDES (KTM) completed the top five.
Italy’s Giacomo REDONDI (KTM) recorded a comfortable win in the Enduro Youth Cup with Matteo BRESOLIN (I – Husaberg) finishing second with Guido CONFORTI (I – Yamaha) in third.

In the Womens Cup Spain’s Laia SANZ (Gas Gas) produced yet another winning performance. Taking a clear victory on day two, the multiple trials world champion has made the perfect start to the season in her bid to win this year’s world title. Again France’s Ludivine PUY (Gas Gas) finished in second while Blandine DUFRENE (F – Husaberg) completed the top three.

The Maxxis FIM Enduro World Championship continues next weekend with the GP Polisport of Portugal in Torres Vedras on May 12/13.

LAS VEGAS (May 5, 2012) – Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., won his fourth Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, race tonight in front of a sold-out crowd of 39,509 at Sam Boyd Stadium. After leading wire-to-wire, GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia, of Ochlocknee, Ga., won the final stop of the Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Class Championship. Barcia’s teammate Eli Tomac, of Cortez, Colo., also led all 15 laps of the Western Regional Supercross Lites Class Main Event, winning his fifth race of the season.

MotoConcepts’ Mike Alessi, of Hilliard, Fla., captured the Nuclear Cowboyz® Holeshot Award to start the Supercross Class Main Event. Dungey didn’t wait long to make his move on Alessi to take the lead on Lap 1. Yoshimura Suzuki’s Brett Metcalfe, of Lake Elsinore, Calif., moved into second place on Lap 2, passing Alessi, and on the following lap, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer, of Rupert, Idaho, found his way into third place.

Weimer advanced into second place on Lap 6, while JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha Davi Millsaps secured third place and set his sights on Weimer. Weimer and Millsaps mixed it up on Lap 7, trading places for second place with Weimer holding the position. Millsaps finally made the pass on Weimer on Lap 10 and rode to a second place finish. Dungey won with an 8 second margin of victory and Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Brayton, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, finished third.

Millsaps finished second in the season point standings and Dungey finished third.

“After the Heat Race, we made a change to the bike that really helped out in the Main Event,” said Dungey. “The track was hard-packed tonight and a little tough. I am really happy that I could get this win for the KTM team.”

Barcia capped off his championship-winning Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Class season by winning the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot Award before leading all 15 laps of the Main Event en route to his sixth victory of the season. Barcia clinched the championship earlier this year at the New Orleans stop.

Behind Barcia, Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen, of Murrieta, Calif., assumed the second-place position with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett, of Grand Terrance, Calif., in tow, where they would finish.

Following Barcia’s win, he made the announcement that he will ride for the Team Honda Muscle Milk squad next year, and the first time he will race for the new team will be at the Monster Energy Cup at Sam Boyd Stadium on October 20.

“This is a dream come true, and I am looking forward to racing for Team Honda Muscle Milk,” said Barcia. “I am happy to close out the season with a win; the track was difficult for me out there, but I was able to keep it together.”

Tomac, of Cortez, Colo., opened the Western Regional Supercross Lites Class Main Event by placing his GEICO Honda across the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot line with Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s Martin Davalos, of Cairo, Ga., and his teammate Jason Anderson, of Edgewood, N.M., following in second and third, respectively.

On Lap 3, Anderson moved into third place, passing Davalos, but moments later made a mistake that allowed Davalos to take back second place and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson to move into third. Wilson passed Davalos on Lap 5 to take over the number-two position. GIECO Honda’s Wil Hahn, of Decatur, Texas moved around Davalos on Lap 11. Wilson finished second and Hahn finished third.

“This shows that GEICO Honda has done a great job this year with us winning both Supercross Lites Class titles and Wil [Hahn] finishing third tonight,” said Tomac.

The dominant performance by the GEICO Honda team set the stage for the 10 lap Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout. Once again, Barcia won the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot Award, and he was trailed by Davalos and Tomac.

On Lap 3 Davalos took advantage of a mistake by Barcia to move into the lead. Two laps later, both Barcia and Tomac moved around Davalos. Barcia was able to hold off the hard charging Tomac for the win. Tomac finished second and Davalos was third.

Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Brayton won the second annual Brett Michaels Rock Hard-Ride Hard Award and received a $10,000 bonus.

It was another strong day for the French in the 2012 Maxxis FIM Enduro World Championship as Antoine MEO, Pierre-Alexandre RENET, Christophe NAMBOTIN and Mathias BELLINO all claimed victory in their respective classes at the GP of Euskadi. In the Womens Cup it was Laia SANZ that grabbed the first win of the season.

With 112 competitors taking to the start of the EWC in Munitibar in northern Spain, the forecasted rain held off to provide an exciting and thrilling start to the EWC’s arrival in Europe. With MEO (F – KTM) and NAMBOTIN (F – KTM) continuing to remain unbeaten in Enduro 1 and Enduro 3, it was the performance by RENET (F – Husaberg) in Enduro 2 that confirmed his intention to be a real championship threat this season as he delivered his second victory of the season.

It was yet another victorious day in the EWC for France’s Christophe NAMBOTIN as he claimed his fifth win of the year in Enduro 3. Edging out an early lead on the Friday evening KTM Super Test, the Frenchman continued to stretch his advantage throughout the day. Proving unbeatable on the challenging Enduro Test, the KTM rider posted his first time of the day almost 30 seconds faster than his competitors. Opening up a comfortable lead at the end of lap one, NAMBOTIN went on to claim victory on Day One by over 95 seconds.“It was another perfect day for me,” commented NAMBOTIN. “I felt really comfortable on the Enduro Test and was able to set some fast times on it. Once I opened up a safe lead I concentrated on controlling it to the finish.”After a daylong battle with the Husaberg pairing of Joakim LJUNGGREN (S) and Spain’s Oriol MENA, Britain’s David KNIGHT (KTM) eventually claimed the runner up position to NAMBOTIN.
Fending off a last lap charge by LJUNGGREN, KNIGHT finished 13 seconds clear of the Husaberg rider to finish in second place. Following a slow start to the morning, LJUNGGREN upped his pace during the final lap to place third.Unable to capitalise on his strong start to the morning, MENA eventually slipped back to fourth while Estonia’s Aigar LEOK (TM), whose progress was hampered by numerous crashes, finished fifth.

Making it five wins from five starts, France’s Antoine MEO was again the clear winner of Enduro 1. After a cautious start to the morning, the KTM rider soon overhauled the fast starting Marc BOURGEOIS (F – Yamaha) as conditions dried out. Setting the fastest time in the final six special tests of the day, MEO eventually placed 52 seconds ahead of BOURGEOIS.“I found it difficult this morning,” confirmed MEO. “It was quite muddy early on and I struggled to find grip in some of the grassy corners but once the conditions dried I was able to up my pace and secure my fifth victory of the season.”BOURGEOIS once again proved to be the revelation of Enduro 1. Posting the fastest time in the Friday evening KTM Super Test, the Frenchman etched out an early lead on Day One over MEO. However, unable to match the pace of his fellow Frenchman during the afternoon, BOURGEOIS eventually settled for second. Finding the conditions to his liking, Finland’s Eero REMES (KTM) recorded his third rostrum finish of the season with third place. With Italy’s Simone ALBERGONI (HM Honda) ending his day in fourth, Rodrig THAIN (HM Honda) completed the top five.

In the highly competitive Enduro 2 class, France’s Pierre Alexandre RENET secured victory on Day One. Settling into an early lead after the first Extreme Test of the morning, RENET gradually grew his lead as the day progressed to claim a well-earned win.“I’m so happy to have won today,” remarked RENET. “The conditions were perfect and it reminded me of my home tracks. Once I got into the lead I just tried to build on it throughout the day and end the day strongly.”For France’s Johnny AUBERT (KTM) second place on Day One was a satisfactory result. Putting his disappointing results in South America behind him, the Frenchman put in a strong ride to finish 20 seconds behind RENET. Continuing to deliver solid results in the EWC, Spain’s Cristobal GUERRERO (KTM) ended his day in third place just 10 seconds adrift of teammate AUBERT.Although only his first race in the 2012 EWC season, KTM’s Jeremy TARROUX wasted little time in making his presence felt by finishing fourth overall. Finland’s Juha SALMINEN (Husqvarna) completed the top five.

In Enduro Junior Mathias BELLINO (Husaberg) set the fastest time in all but two of the ten special tests to record a commanding victory. Powerless to match the pace of the Husaberg rider, Italy’s Jonathan MANZI (KTM) beat Spain’s Victor GUERRERO (KTM) by five seconds to finish in second. With GUERRERO in third, Argentina’s Kevin BENAVIDES (KTM) placed fourth while Italy’s Mario ROMAN (KTM), now fully recovered from a knee injury, completed the top five.Italy’s Giacomo REDONDI (KTM) recorded another commanding win in the Enduro Youth Cup. Husaberg’s Matteo BRESOLIN (I) was second with Portugal’s Luis OLIVERIA (Yamaha) third.

With the GP of Euskadi marking the first outing in the Womens Cup, it was Spain’s Laia SANZ (Gas Gas) that claimed the opening victory of the season. Withstanding a fierce battle from defending champion Ludivine PUY (F – Gas Gas), SANZ narrowly placed just nine seconds in front of her teammate. KTM’s Audrey ROSSAT (F) finished third while the French duo of Juliette BERREZ (TM) and Blandine DUFRENE (HUSABERG) rounded out the top five.
